Mary Kate's Newborn Session: Love, Laughs, Guitar, and a Gorgeous Nursery | Northern VA Newborn Photographer

Newborn sessions always get my emotions going and this one was no different.  After such a fun (and beautiful!) maternity session, I knew that Holly and Dave were going to be amazing parents.  One of the best parts of my job is being able to watch new parents settle into their new roles of moms and dads.  You always dream about what you will do as a parent, what kinds of traditions you want to continue or start, what things you will hold dear.  So it is truly an amazing experience to watch those dreams come true.

Holly and Dave couldn't have been more natural as first-time parents.  Watching them interact with each other and with little Mary Katherine was beautiful- like she had already been with them for a lifetime, rather than just over a week.  First, we took advantage of their beautiful master bedroom for a few family shots that included their first 'fur-baby', Lilly.  Afterwards, we moved into the nursery that the couple so lovingly designed.  The neutral colors with soft pink accents were so soothing and peaceful.  It felt like the perfect place for a brand-new baby girl to get her start.  One of my favorite accents in the room was the adorable animal watercolor prints that were hung around the room.  I loved watching Holly tenderly stroke Mary Kate's face to try to coax her into sleeping.  In the end, Mary Kate decided to be alert, but happy, during the whole session- she barely made a peep!

Finally, we moved to their newly remodeled living room to get a few last photos of Daddy and his little girl.  I could tell that Mary Kate has him wrapped around his little finger already!  When Dave pulled out his guitar to play for her, my heart melted into a puddle!  If that wasn't sweet enough, he then began to sing a song he had written just for her a few weeks after finding out she was a little girl.  And that's when the tears started flowing for everyone, even Dad.  In his words, "That was powerful."

I couldn't agree more.  Becoming a parent is truly the most powerful thing in the world.

So happy for you Holly & Dave!
